Sunday, 06 December 2020: The MENA edition of World Cloud Show concluded yesterday with over 200 online participants tuning in from across the globe to explore the current state of cloud computing in the MENA region from experts. The conference virtually connected major stakeholders of the region’s cloud computing ecosystem including government authorities, top cloud solution providers and leaders from influential think-tanks.
The event covered critical areas of concern in cloud computing such as Cloud as a driver of innovation; how cloud adoption will benefit Middle-East enterprises across the sectors; today’s state of Data and Cloud Technologies and more.

Ayesha Mohammed, Senior Permits Officer, Dubai Electronic Security Centre, UAE delivered a keynote on ‘Effective framework for the Cloud Deployment in the Middle East region’. While giving a summary on the cloud security standard developed by Dubai Electronic Security Centre (DESC), Ayesha stated, “The main objective of the Cloud Security Provider (CSP) Security standard is to secure the cloud environment in Dubai and protect the safety of information stored in it.” Ayesha further added, “DESC was ready with processes, certifications and exemptions in place. This ensured that we had smooth progress with government entities towards digital transformation during the pandemic.”
Ahtasham Rabbani, Senior Cloud Expert, Cloud International Business Dept, Cloud & AI BG, Huawei shared insights from his tech talk session ‘Building an Intelligent World Together: Ubiquitous Cloud for All Scenarios’. Ahtasham said, “Hybrid cloud refers to a mixed computing storage and services environment, made up of on-premises infrastructure, private cloud services and a public cloud with orchestration among various platforms. However, the question is, does it enable other capabilities like data enablement and application enablement? We have to look at the hybrid cloud solution across the industry and see whether it satisfies the transformation needs of the government and enterprises.”
The show also featured a panel discussion on Cloud Infrastructure and Strategies for the MENA Government Authorities. Speakers on the panel included Mohammed Mahnashi, Information Technology Advisor for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saudi Arabia; Latifa Al Shehhi, Head of Smart Data at FCSA, Member of the UN GWG of Big Data, ISI Committee on Women in Statistics, UAE; Badar Khan, Director Digital Mobility, NEOM, Saudi Arabia; Abdulla Al Majid, Assistant Undersecretary for support services, Ministry of Justice, UAE and Alena Dique, Founding Director, UNCTAD Youth Action Hub Oman, Oman (Moderator).
The show was hosted on the virtual events platform Vmeets to help participants network and conduct business in an interactive and immersive virtual environment.
