The Manila edition of World AI Show virtually connected global pacesetters in artificial intelligence to highlight the hidden opportunities and potentials in the Philippines Artificial Intelligence and Digital Asset Ecosystem.

  Thursday, 27 August 2020 (Manila): On Tuesday, Trescon hosted the Manila edition of World AI Show (WAIS) in association with the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Republic of the Philippines (DICT). The event virtually gathered over 250 participants that included top AI influencers, solution providers, solution seekers, enterprises and government leaders from across the world. The show was hosted on the new virtual events platform, Vmeets that featured keynotes, exciting panel discussions, technology use-cases, product showcases and other insightful sessions.

The agenda of the conference focused on the latest tech trends in AI, data analytics and Cybersecurity; the important strategies for building a collaborative AI ecosystem for the Philippines and how it is seen to offer opportunities for the country to make it more globally competitive.

The event featured sessions from tech leaders such as Genalyn Macalinao, Policy Lead, Cyber Security Bureau, the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Philippines; Dr David Hardoon, Senior Advisor for Data and Artificial Intelligence at Union Bank/ Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau, Philippines and John C Havens, Executive Director at The IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems, World Economic Forum, USA; to name a few.

  • Dr David Hardoon, Senior Advisor for Data and Artificial Intelligence at Union Bank Philippines and external advisor to Singapore’s Corrupt Investigation Practices Bureau (CPIB), delivered the opening keynote on ‘Mapping the Future of Data Analytics’. With respect to the future of data analytics, AI and data governance, Dr David Hardoon’s keynote touched up three main elements – Human centricity, open data and hyper-personalization. He said, “Data is not oil, it is eternal to a certain extent. It’s really about hyper personalization, putting us as the centre. We need to go bottom-up from a data point of view and think about the operationalization of data.”
  • The conference also featured a panel discussion on ‘AI and Public Sector’. From Cybersecurity to data ethics, speakers shared diverse viewpoints on how AI currently operates in the public sector and the skills and resources required to successfully apply it. Genalyn Macalinao Lead, Cyber Security Bureau, Department of Information and Communications Technology, stated, “The Department of Information and Communications Technology is continuously exploring how AI technology can actually be the key to recovering the economy. There are several initiatives that are already in place in collaboration with agencies to leverage on AI. We have to take into consideration the importance of accountability and transparency in the use of AI-based application and compliance efforts.”
  • John C Havens, Executive Director at The IEEE Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems, World Economic Forum, delivered an interesting keynote on advancing technology for humanity and the code of ethics for AI.
  • The conference also featured other insightful sessions from Adam Biviano, Director, Solution Architecture at ForgeRock, Australia; Winnie Talosig Rebancos, Information Technology Director for Coca-Cola Beverages, Philippines and Peter Heise, AI Community & Data Analytics Leader, Airbus, Germany.
