Tuesday, 17 November 2020: World AI Show served as a key catalyst for Qatar’s bold vision of leveraging innovation and technology to diversify its goals by bringing together an inspirational line-up of Artificial Intelligence experts & solution providers on 10th November 2020. The show virtually connected over 300 online participants from across the globe including major stakeholders of Qatar’s digital ecosystem.
The theme for the virtual conference was premised on helping key government entities and private enterprises develop a comprehensive AI roadmap by assessing sectors of critical infrastructure where emerging technologies can be a strategic enabler to boost the nation’s economic competitiveness.

Oscar Liebana, Innovation and Technology Senior Manager, Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Qatar (FIFA WORLD CUP Qatar 2022™) shared a general perspective and strategic approach for innovation, AI and emerging technologies to deliver an amazing experience for the FIFA WORLD CUP Qatar 2022™.
He stated, “We will try to leverage partnerships between people and machines and explore different kinds of human and computer intelligence working together for better communication and collaboration through hyperconnectivity.” He further added, “We want to foster experimental innovation by means of a new digital and physical experience delivered to fans and visitors, which addresses unmet or unarticulated fans’ personal needs and group preferences.”
Among the top technology leaders and speakers who joined the global conversation was Husain Ebrahim, Solutions Architect Specialist Automation & DevOps, at Nutanix. Husain took the audience through a technical session on ‘Simplifying AI applications to drive business efficiency’. Husain’s presentation covered key areas such as AI’s impact on key sectors, challenges during the AI system lifecycle and AI architecture on Nutanix, to name a few.
While talking about managing AI systems, Husain said, “The implementation and management of AI systems are difficult. The reason is that there are multiple platforms to deliver AI applications. Secondly, the scale and how we expand the applications is important. We also have a wide variety of applications based on sectors such as retail, healthcare, defence and industrial sector. Each of these sectors has its own requirements and challenges from a regulation and operation perspective.”
The show also featured a government panel discussion on ‘AI in the era of Digital Governance – to create smart and high-performance governments’. Panellists included Sarah Khalid Al-Hussaini, Projects Engineer, Ministry of Transport and Communication, Qatar; Antonio Sanfilipo, Chief Scientist/Director, Qatar Foundation/Qatar Environment & Energy Research Institute – QEERI HBKU, Qatar; Ott Velsberg, Government Chief Data Officer for the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, Estonia and Dr. Shadha Al Amri, Ambassador, Smart city, Oman (Moderator).

The show was hosted on the advanced virtual events platform Vmeets that provided a digital platform for industry leaders in the artificial intelligence space to discuss and showcase innovative AI-based solutions in an interactive online environment that included private consultation rooms, Q&A sessions, private networking rooms and more.
